Rep. John Lawrence and Sen. Carolyn Comitta have announced state funding for infrastructure projects in southern Chester County. The funding aims to address historical disparities in state allocations to the area.
"Key infrastructure initiatives recognized for state funding will serve the community for decades to come," stated Lawrence, emphasizing efforts to correct past inequities in state funding distribution. He added that these grants would aid in building and rebuilding local infrastructure for current and future generations.
Comitta highlighted the wide-ranging benefits of these investments: "These investments support a broad scope of improvements in local communities throughout our region." She noted that projects such as park improvements and wastewater infrastructure upgrades are intended to enhance residents' quality of life.
The Oxford Area Sewer Authority is set to receive nearly $800,000 for wastewater infrastructure upgrades in Oxford Borough and East Nottingham Township. The funds will be used to improve the septage receiving station and pump stations at Grant Street/Twin Ponds.
David Busch, executive director of the Oxford Area Sewer Authority, welcomed the grant: "Receipt of this grant funding is great news for the authority and its customers." He anticipates that once completed, these upgrades will lead to cost savings and bolster system sustainability across four municipalities.
Lawrence underscored the importance of maintaining water systems: "Regular maintenance and upgrades are key to ensuring long-term viability of water and wastewater systems."
Penn Township has been awarded $500,000 for further development of Penn Township Sports Park on Route 796. This project includes fields for various sports on over 40 acres of preserved land.
Victor Mantegna, chair of the Penn Township Board of Supervisors, expressed gratitude: "We are honored by the Commonwealth Finance Authority’s award... providing unique recreational experiences for all."
Oxford Borough will also benefit from a $150,000 grant aimed at improving Mt. Vernon Street's roadways and sidewalks. Kathryn Cloyd, Oxford Borough Council President, remarked on its significance: "This grant will help us achieve many important goals through one project."
The grants were provided through competitive programs managed by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
