Unionville-Chadds Ford School District issued the following announcement on Mar. 24.
The Unionville Chadds-Ford School District (UCFSD) is pleased to announce that on March 21, 2022, the School Board unanimously approved an early bird contract with the Unionville-Chadds Ford Education Association (UCFEA). The four-year collective bargaining agreement will go into effect July 1, 2023 through June 30, 2027 and can be found on the District’s website.
During the negotiation process, the Board had several goals that they wanted to achieve with this agreement; preserve and protect the district’s educational program, retain and attract talented staff that are needed to deliver the district’s educational programs, deliver an agreement that is fair and reasonable and rewards UCFSD teachers with stability and predictability, and be fiscally responsible to UCFSD citizens.
During the School Board meeting, Dr. Steve Simonson stated, “I think we’ve been successful in meeting our goals. I think this agreement is well-deserved by our teachers. I think it will help us attract and retain that talent that we need. It is a reasonably priced contract. It is a win-win agreement for our district.”
The contract provides fair and reasonable salary increases at 3.5% for years one and two and 3.15% for years three and four. Additionally, the contract maintains teacher health benefits, including dental, vision care and prescription plans and Health Saving Account contributions.
Other highlights to the agreement include a 2% increase for supplemental contracts, an increase in hourly pay to $45, and an increase in the Annual Tuition Reimbursement pool. The contract also includes a no strike-no lockout clause.
“This contract rewards our teachers for their outstanding work, especially during the pandemic,” stated Jeff Hellrung, School Board President. “It will allow us to attract and maintain the teaching talent we need for our students to continue to excel academically and to build a foundation for them to succeed in life and contribute to society. Finally, it is affordable and comes at a reasonable cost for our citizens.”
“UCFEA is appreciative of the district’s recognition of our members’ dedication and extraordinary efforts, especially during the past two-plus years of the pandemic,” stated Scott Broomall, UCFEA President. “We are pleased that the district agreed to negotiate in good faith and are confident that our new contract is in the best interest of the students, the community and our teachers. UCFEA looks forward to serving UCFSD students, families, and the community during the next five years with the knowledge that our talents, hard work, and dedication are valued.”
