Hiring

St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church recently issued the following announcement.

Job Posting — Director of Music

St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Parish is looking to fill a part-time position as Music Director to begin ministry in September 2021.

This position requires the ability to play the pipe organ and at time piano. Our program needs building up and we are looking for someone creative and energetic to recruit choir members and musicians.

The Director of Music reports directly to the Pastor and collaborates closely with the Parish Pastoral Staff. This position involves two or three weekend Masses (Saturday Vigil Mass at 4:15 pm, Sunday Masses at 9:30am and 11:30 am), and including rehearsing with and building up the Parish Choir. Currently, Choir rehearsals are held on Tuesday evening from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm from September to June.

Additional liturgies to be covered include: Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, Holy Days, and Masses for the Sacraments of Initiation (First Eucharist and Confirmation). Some of these liturgies involve collaboration with instrumentalists.

The Music Director should plan liturgical music and meet with Pastor as needed for other special liturgies. Weddings and funeral liturgy planning with the families is also required. Additional compensation is provided for these liturgies. Along with excellent musical skills, this position requires a person in good standing with our Catholic faith. To apply, send resume to: St. Gabriel of the Sorrowful Mother Church, P.O. Box 709, Avondale, PA 19311 Or you can email: stgabriel@kenneƩ.net Questions may be directed to the Parish Business Manager, Silvia Lawrence.
