Southern Chester County has been awarded over $2 million in state grant funding for infrastructure projects. This announcement was made by Rep. John Lawrence (R-West Grove) and Sen. Carolyn Comitta (D-West Chester).

“Key infrastructure initiatives recognized for state funding will serve the community for decades to come,” stated Lawrence. He emphasized the importance of collaboration with Sen. Comitta and other officials to rectify past funding disparities. The funds aim to enhance local infrastructure both presently and for future generations.

Comitta highlighted the benefits of access to recreational spaces, saying, “Access to parks, trails, playing fields, and outdoor spaces contributes to the health, well-being, and overall quality of life in communities across southern Chester County.”

Penn Township is set to receive $500,000 for the final phase of its Sports Park near Jennersville. The project will include various sports facilities and amenities such as baseball/softball fields, multi-purpose fields, a parking lot, ADA-compliant walkways, restrooms, gazebos, a pavilion, and picnic tables.

Victor Mantegna from Penn Township expressed gratitude: “This grant will fund the playing fields portion of the sport park providing for the recreational needs of children and adults throughout southern Chester County.”

The Oxford Area Recreation Authority is allocated over $650,000 for upgrades at community park facilities in East Nottingham Township. These improvements include paving parking lots and driveways, new lighting and fencing installations, shed renovations, and new restrooms.

John Reynolds Jr., vice chair of the authority said: “Oxford Area Recreation Authority has been anxiously awaiting the approval of this grant as the funding will be used to add to and improve facilities.”

Avon Grove School District will receive $1 million for planned renovations at two schools aimed at replacing outdated HVAC systems with modern equipment.

Bonnie Wolff from Avon Grove School Board commented: “Our students and teachers deserve comfortable, healthy spaces to learn and grow.”

London Britain Township is granted over $136,000 for engineering work on a municipal wastewater plant along Chambers Rock Road and installation of flashing warning devices on Route 896.

Brian Sachs from London Britain Township noted: “These lights are a much-needed safety improvement…”

Funding was provided through two competitive state grant funds: the statewide Local Share Account and Public School Facility Improvement Grant program administered by the Commonwealth Financing Authority.
