Marty Young, the Republican candidate for Congress in Pennsylvania’s 6th District, has introduced a new healthcare proposal called the Young Americans Plan (YAP). This plan aims to provide universal healthcare coverage for children, young adults under 23, and expectant mothers. It promises to lower costs and deliver economic relief to families and businesses in Chester and Berks Counties.
Young criticized the current healthcare system, stating that it rewards “professional fraudsters, corrupt politicians, government bureaucrats, and insurance middlemen,” while patients and doctors suffer. He emphasized that families are burdened by rising healthcare costs along with other living expenses like housing and childcare. The plan proposes full coverage without premiums or deductibles for preventive care and essential services for children up to age 23.
Young’s experience as a father of four and an Army Chaplain informs his approach. He has also dealt with large-scale insurance fraud at his company Buckle, which lost over $15 million due to the Vesttoo scandal. This experience highlighted the need for accountability in government-backed systems.
The Young Americans Plan offers two main commitments: universal healthcare for children up to age 23 and expectant mothers from pregnancy through the baby’s first year. The plan aims to remove these costs from unstable insurance markets, thereby lowering premiums for adults.
Young is positioning himself as a different kind of Republican by proposing guaranteed healthcare coverage as a cost-effective way to protect families. He argues that Washington’s temporary fixes have failed and calls for durable reform without creating new bureaucracy.
Young will hold town halls across the district to discuss his plan with voters, starting with one on January 25. He criticizes incumbent Rep. Chrissy Houlahan for not providing meaningful healthcare reform during her tenure.
